Description
The city of Alacala de Henares Spain, near Madrid, is known as the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes and his Birthplace Museum sits at number 48 on the main street in the city center called Calle Mayor. Calle Mayor was conceived as a major artery in the 12th century. Aside from its age, it is one of the longest arcaded streets in Europe, second only to the porch of S. Luca in Bologna. As it was then, it is now still a busy commercial area. Although on this rainy day all the pedestrians are under the colonnades with only one brave soul braving the wet street!
